Zero Carbon Design

H & H Codes offers online professional Continuing Education Services (CES) approved and registered by the AIA for Zero Carbon Building Design guidelines and helpful tools. These resources are geared towards earning Learning Units (LU), Health, Safety, and Welfare (HSW) Credit, Continuing Education Units (CEU), and Professional Development Hours (PDH).

The reading materials for the following courses are cited from various green construction and zero carbon standards codes.

  • International Green Construction Code, Design, Construction, and operation of Buildings
  • Canada Green Building Council, Zero Carbon Building Standards.

Creating Zero Carbon Structures

AIA-NZC 601

Course Learning Objectives:

  1. The reader shall learn the basic principles of green building and zero-carbon building design, as an effort to achieve energy efficiency during the construction and operation of newly and or remodeled projects.
  • The attendee shall become familiar with the means and methods of creating a zero-carbon interior environment, through depending on building’s orientation and local climates, and available nature resources.
  • The reader shall be introduced to solutions for designing Zero-Carbon buildings implemented during the building design stage, in the choosing building materials, equipment, and operation.
  • The reader shall be aware of the building industry players’ goals to reach a common ground to achieve the goal toward net-zero-carbon, by issuing standards and by laws.

Zero Carbon Home Design

AIA-NZC 602

Course Learning Objectives:

  1. The reader shall learn the basic principles of green construction and zero-carbon home designs, as an effort to achieve energy efficiency during the construction and operation of newly and or remodeled homes.
  • The attendee shall become familiar with the means and methods of creating a zero-carbon interior living environment, depending on orientation, local climates, and avaible natural resources.
  • The reader shall be introduced to solutions for designing Zero-Carbon homes implemented during the building design stage, in the choosing building materials, equipment, and operation.
  • The reader shall be aware of the building industry players’ goals to reach a common ground to achieve the goal toward net-zero-carbon, by issuing standards and by laws.

Zero Carbon & Renewable Energy

AIA-NZC 603

Course Learning Objectives:

  1. The reader shall be informed of the means and methods available to produce green and renewable energy created from natural resources, such as solar, wind, geothermal, biomass, hydroelectrical, and others.
  • The attendee shall be familiar with new engineering efforts to harness new renewable energy sources, such as tidal energy, wave energy, and algal energy.
  • The reader shall be introduced to the language and terminology applicable to zero carbon standards, such as carbon footprint, embodied carbon, operational carbon, maintenance carbon, end of life carbon, and more.
  • The reader shall become aware of the differences between zero carbon and zero energy, where zero carbon offset the building carbon emissions, while zero energy is a product of renewable energy.
